Recording
Session Metadata
Add participant info, project tags, and context to recording sessions.
Pre-Recording Metadata
Before starting a recording, MouseViz shows a metadata form where you can enter:
- Participant name — Who is being recorded (for usability studies)
- Project name — Which project or study this session belongs to
- Tags — Custom labels for organizing and filtering sessions
This information is saved with the session and appears in session history and exports.
Automatic Metadata
Every session also captures automatically:
- Timestamp — Start and end times
- Duration — Total recording length
- Active applications — Which apps were used during the session
- Display configuration — Screen resolution and monitor setup
- Input summary — Total clicks, scroll distance, key presses, cursor distance traveled
Task Markers and Notes
During recording, you can annotate the timeline:
- ⌘⇧M — Place a generic marker at the current timestamp
- ⌘1–9 — Place numbered markers for specific tasks
- ⌘⇧N — Add a typed quick note
These appear on the session timeline and are included in exports.
Project Grouping
Sessions are organized by project in the history shelf. Use the folder toggle to group related sessions together. Free tier retains the last 5 sessions; Pro and Team have unlimited history.
