Troubleshooting
Permissions Issues
Resolve Accessibility and Screen Recording permission problems.
MouseViz Can't Track Input
If MouseViz isn't recording mouse or keyboard activity, check both required permissions.
Check Accessibility
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility.
- Verify MouseViz is in the list and the toggle is enabled.
- If it's listed but not working, remove it (click -) and re-add it (click +).
- Restart MouseViz.
Check Screen Recording
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.
- Verify MouseViz is enabled.
- Restart MouseViz after making changes.
Permission Prompt Not Appearing
If you don't see the permission prompts on first launch:
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security manually.
- Add MouseViz to both Accessibility and Screen Recording lists using the + button.
- Navigate to your Applications folder and select MouseViz.
macOS Security Block
If macOS says MouseViz can't be opened:
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Under the Security section, look for a message about MouseViz being blocked.
- Click Open Anyway.
This happens because MouseViz is distributed outside the Mac App Store. The app is Apple code-signed, notarized, and runs with hardened runtime — see our security page.
Permissions Reset After macOS Update
macOS updates occasionally reset privacy permissions. If MouseViz stops working after an OS update, re-grant both Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions following the steps above.
