Permissions Issues

Resolve Accessibility and Screen Recording permission problems.

MouseViz Can't Track Input

If MouseViz isn't recording mouse or keyboard activity, check both required permissions.

Check Accessibility

  1. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility.
  2. Verify MouseViz is in the list and the toggle is enabled.
  3. If it's listed but not working, remove it (click -) and re-add it (click +).
  4. Restart MouseViz.

Check Screen Recording

  1. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.
  2. Verify MouseViz is enabled.
  3. Restart MouseViz after making changes.

Permission Prompt Not Appearing

If you don't see the permission prompts on first launch:

  1. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security manually.
  2. Add MouseViz to both Accessibility and Screen Recording lists using the + button.
  3. Navigate to your Applications folder and select MouseViz.

macOS Security Block

If macOS says MouseViz can't be opened:

  1. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security.
  2. Under the Security section, look for a message about MouseViz being blocked.
  3. Click Open Anyway.

This happens because MouseViz is distributed outside the Mac App Store. The app is Apple code-signed, notarized, and runs with hardened runtime — see our security page.

Permissions Reset After macOS Update

macOS updates occasionally reset privacy permissions. If MouseViz stops working after an OS update, re-grant both Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions following the steps above.
